Game Dev Diaries | Funemployed & road-tripping to EDC Las Vegas 2022
Переглядів 5 тис.2 роки тому
I'm switching jobs! And decided to take two weeks off in between. This game dev used to be a pretty big raver (pre-pandemic) and decided to give it one last hurrah by taking a road trip to Las Vegas for EDC 2022. Day two our outfits were inspired by HxH and I'm fully convinced we manifested the return of it the manga. My favorite sets were Seven Lion, Zhu, and Illenium (bc I'm basic). Music use...

Hey Morgan! 👋🏼 I just discovered your channel while searching for game development videos. Since I am interested in breaking into the industry, I'm currently undecided between web development and game development. I'm mainly a self-taught learner as I believe I don't need a CS degree to get into either web or game development. All you need is a strong portfolio showcasing your skills. I've been researching web dev and game dev, and the feedback I'm getting suggests that web dev is more secure, pays more, and is easier to break into. What do you think about that? Since I am not sure if that's entirely accurate. I’m also trying out game development now to get a feel for it and so far I enjoy it a lot, I find it more creative and fun than web development, which can be a bit boring. Currently, I'm taking a Udemy course called "Unreal Engine 5 C++ Developer: Learn C++ & Make Video Games," where I'm learning all about the Unreal engine and C++ and I have been loving it. I’m already somewhat familiar with programming too, so, I pick up the logic quickly, and even though C++ is challenging, anyone can learn it with dedication and effort. Anyway, we'll see which career path I decide to pursue, but so far I'm leaning towards game development. I enjoyed this video a lot and appreciate your tips! I liked and subscribed! @16:11 haha that was cool story, I totally dig it!😄

You mentioned a tip about talking about my past experiences... but what if I haven't had any real work experience, how would the path to the game industry be without any experience? (I want to be a UI Designer for game websites, etc). thanks ❤

"game developer", I might be a douche about this but here goes. Designing art, no. Making things function, no. Developing concepts and new ideas, no. Do you design game mechanics? only if you count the shop and using human psychology to make them spend more, the one interaction that does not have anything to do with playing the game is monetization. It's like saying that you're a cook cause you bought a mixer but are not the one using it. If you for example move a HR person from a game company to a construction one, did they become a construction worker? Don't get me wrong, your role might be important and you probably do it well. But if I worked as a repair technician in hospital and had a crucial role in that place running, I would still not call myself a doctor.

I personally want to experience every little bits of everything and not take a job from the industry because my goal to become developer by my right and be my own boss. I have not so much skill at the moment and my social skills may hinder me especially in english which is not my native language. I am that kind of person whom not talks much but dreams, imagine, try to create. I know what I need to improve to achieve my goals but sooner or later need to make sacrifices which could push me further into the abyss so I need to be careful with it. This video and story of your inspiring and glad there are options to get into the industry in different ways too. Wish you good health and progress.
